Get messy with Pingu’s English with this fun arts and crafts activity – developing your own Pingu paper mache. Creative activities develop fine motor skills, boost a child’s confidence, and encourage self-expression. But mostly activities like this to do with your child are fun! Below are the ingredients you will need and step by step instructions to make your own Pingu paper mache.
You will need:
- Balloons
- Flour
- Water
- Newspaper
- Paint – white, black, red and yellow
- Paintbrushes
- Strong Non-Toxic Glue
Step by step instructions
Step 1 – Mix one cup of flour with one cup of water to make the adhesive mixture.
Step 2 – Blow up two balloons – making one larger, for the body and one smaller for the head.
Step 3 – Tear or cut the newspaper sheets into long strips. Your child will love helping to cut these out with their children’s scissors.
Step 4 – Now balance your balloon in a cup or bowl. Using a paintbrush paint a generous amount of the flour/water mixture onto the balloons and place the strips of newspaper from the top of the balloon to the bottom.
Step 5 – Repeat the process, ensuring the newspaper strips are sufficiently covered with the mixture. Be sure to cover the balloon with three layers of paper.
Step 6 – Leave to dry and then paint like Pingu with black, white, red and orange.
Step 7 – Once dry you can glue the head to the body and glue on some arms and feet.
Now you can enjoy your own homemade Pingu! You could also make other members of Pingu’s family too. Remember to take photos of your paper mache Pingu and upload to us.
