World Book Day 2020: Top tips for developing a love of reading with your child

Latest News

There is no doubt that developing a love of reading at an early age will help give them a headstart in life and set them on  the path to becoming lifelong readers.  Not only that but it will improve your child’s concentration, and vocabulary and language skills. But reading with your child can offer so much more than that. Reading helps develop and fire their imagination, and opens their mind to the excitement of the world around them.  But most of all reading is fun!

As World Book Day is celebrated in many parts of the world today, we offer top tips for developing your child’s passion and love of reading at a young age.

  1. Do let children choose the books they are interested in. Children may struggle to read books they don’t like, or are forced to read!
  2. Remember to have lots of different books in the home. And remember to lead by example, let your child observe you reading often.
  3. It’s not always easy but try and set a specific time aside every day to read together . You are likely to quickly start seeing the benefit of making it a daily habit!
  4. If possible, try and create a comfortable, cosy reading corner with lots of beanbags and blankets. And of course lots of different books!
  5. Why not visit the library, or see what book fairs or book clubs are happening locally? Also keep your eyes out for local author signings.
  6. Remember to talk about reading. It’s really important to ask children about the book they are reading or what they like about a certain book. They will love that you are interested in it too.  Spending time together talking about books also helps create a stronger bond too.
  7. If possible, try and sit together as a family with each person reading their chosen literature. This could be a book, a comic, a magazine or a newspaper, depending on the family members age and interests.
  8. For another idea, why not read a story and then watch the movie remake of the book?
  9. Try and visit places that children are reading about, for example if your child is reading an animal story, take them to a wildlife park.
  10. And lastly, to inspire a love of reading, why not listen to audio books together? These are great to listen to in the car or when travelling. If you don’t have access to audio books, you can make up your own stories together. One person can decide on the characters and another can decide on the story plot or the problems and solutions that will appear in the story. This will also teach children the patterns of storytelling

Above all, enjoy reading with your child!

Testimonials

We at the British Chamber of Commerce worked with Linguaphone Group to find them a new in-market partner for the Korean market. Throughout the engagement we had with Linguaphone Group, we found them to be passionate about education, supremely professional in their approach to business and both responsive and personable in their interactions with ourselves and Korean partners. Korean investors were attracted to the best-in-class program which Linguaphone Group offers, the strong reputation of the company and the heritage with which it is associated. These are qualities that resonate globally.

Our Experience with Pingu’s English has been profitable and positive from the first year. We relied on their professionalism and heritage, their staff is always prompt to assist with the latest trends and ideas on the market. We were looking for a brand who can guarantee us quality and a solid method but at the same time would leave us the freedom and flexibility in order to succeed in our challenging and competitive market like the Italian one. We built Pingu’s English project in Italy by mixing their huge international experience in the English training with our knowledge of the Italian market. All this enabled us to do the right decision for our winning investment. Today we have over 40 Pingu’s English centres and thousands of happy children learning English.

I knew about Pingu’s English School through a friend. After research about the school, I decided to enroll my daughter and it was one of the best things I could do to her. She loves studying at Pingu’s English and she cannot wait to the day of the class. I also love Pingu's English School, because there she learns by playing and I can see her progress day by day.

Regarding the teaching method they use a figurative storytelling way of starting the lesson,  trying hard to involve the child and make the them curious about the situation. Tom is very happy to go to Pingu’s English because he perceives the School as a playful moment and not just as a learning moment while at the same time he is learning a new language
